{"id":441,"date":"2019-07-01T11:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-07-01T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/servossvirtualservices.com\/staging\/6081\/?p=441"},"modified":"2023-08-01T14:36:53","modified_gmt":"2023-08-01T14:36:53","slug":"what-is-boredom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/servossvirtualservices.com\/staging\/6081\/what-is-boredom\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Boredom?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I&#8217;m sitting at my desk at my 8-5 job, looking through Facebook and LinkedIn for the hundredth time today, and I feel my eyelids go lower, my body starts to relax and the next thing I know, I am jerked back to the living because I almost fall out of my chair! The chair is set at counter\/bar stool height, so falling would most definitely hurt.&nbsp; I&#8217;m glad I woke up before that happened!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, why did I doze to begin with? What is causing my boredom to the point of falling to sleep?&nbsp; After a short Google search, I found that<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boredom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Wikipedia.com<\/a> had the best definition of the word Boredom:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em><strong>&#8220;an emotional and occasionally psychological state experienced when an individual is left without anything in particular to do, is not interested in his or her surroundings, or feels that a day or period is dull or tedious.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/h5>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>This is exactly what I am feeling at the moment, which peaked my interest. So after another Google search to find out where the word came from, I landed on this article by Linda Rodriguez McRobbie on<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithsonianmag.com\/science-nature\/the-history-of-boredom-138176427\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Smithsonian.com: &#8220;The History of Boredom.&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0 The article was actually quite interesting, causing my boredom to dissipate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/servossvirtualservices.com\/staging\/6081\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Bored-Minion-e1690899976798.jpg\" alt=\"Bored Minion\" class=\"wp-image-442\" width=\"218\" height=\"291\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After noticing that I was no longer board, I perform yet another Google search to find ways to keep from being bored.&nbsp; Some of the tips I found were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Plan ahead &#8211; knowing what needs to be done and filling holes in your day will leave no time to be bored.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prioritize your tasks &#8211; by working on the most urgent tasks, you will stay engaged and present.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Put quality first &#8211; don&#8217;t just rush through tasks to get them done. Take your time and you&#8217;ll have less time to be bored.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Socialize &#8211; talking to others helps inspire your imagination, which is a key ingredient to keeping boredom at bay.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learn something new &#8211; engaging in learning something you are truly interested in keeps you from being bored.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work toward some goals, big or small &#8211; concentrating on a goal keeps your mind active.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meditate &#8211; I admit this is kinda hard if you&#8217;re already sleepy due to boredom, but it might help some people.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>In my case, I know the reason I am bored is because I am no longer motivated to go above and beyond at my job.&nbsp; I have only a few responsibilities that I can do in my sleep (pun intended!) and there&#8217;s no reason for me to do more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"296\" height=\"166\" data-src=\"https:\/\/servossvirtualservices.com\/staging\/6081\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Bored-of-being-Bored.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-443 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 296px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 296\/166;\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So, how do I get out of this rut I&#8217;m in?&nbsp; I have a plan!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Continue to build my<a href=\"http:\/\/servossvirtualservices.com\"> business<\/a> as a side hustle until I have enough money saved for 3 months of expenses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Request that my hours be reduced from 40 to 30 hours per week, which will allow me more time to focus on #1<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When I don&#8217;t have anything to do at work, I&#8217;ll take free online courses, such as project management or website design, to improve my skills that will help with #1<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remember my goal of turning my side hustle into a full-time income so I can quit my 8-5 job by the end of 2019.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>What makes you bored?
